Winterlicher Besuch in Estland

Merry Christmas and many greetings from Estonia from December 10th to 14th, 2022 from the Erasmus team of the vocational college district of Höxter, consisting of Udo Schlüter and Rebecca Arens. On the occasion of the 4th meeting of the Erasmus+ project „Sustainability in Vocational Colleges“ we were able to gain great experiences in a wintry atmosphere in the northernmost country of the Baltic States, make important contacts and of course expand our knowledge of sustainability. Of course, this is only possible in harmony with the environment and nature. That’s what it said on December 11th. into the warm clothes and out into the cold landscape of the snowy forests of Nova west of the capital Tallinn. There we explored the local forests with Kairit, the forest ranger. She informed us about the current challenges to conserve the forest despite adverse soil conditions and climate change, because the number of forest fires has increased in Estonia, for example. The following day we went out again into the rough snow flurry to visit the local peat bog in Niibi turbaraba. Here Kristjan informed us about the sustainable use of the moor. In the afternoon we visited the Haapsalu waterworks. Ando, the manager, showed us the laborious treatment of the drinking water and made it clear to us how important the sustainable use of waste water is, also in the context of climate change and the low rainfall, even in northern countries like Estonia. After we got to know the advanced and modern learning conditions of the Haapsalu Kutsehariduskeskus with the school tour, the best conditions for future stays abroad for our students are offered. We are already looking forward tot he next meeting in March in Turkey.
